Additionally, it’s more effective at repelling biting flies than DEET and works well against stable flies, black flies, gnats, chiggers, and sand flies.
From the moment we left the parking lot in the Sawtooth Mountains, we were met with swarms of mosquitoes and other insects. Applying the spray before heading out and reapplying at our campsite made a significant difference. We were able to enjoy our trip without worrying about bug bites or damage to our clothing and gear, especially our waterproof items, which can be a concern with DEET-based products.
One of the standout features of Sawyer Picaridin is how comfortable it feels on the skin. Unlike DEET, which can leave a greasy residue, Picaridin has a lighter feel. Even when paired with sunscreen, it did not feel uncomfortable. While you can tell you're wearing it and it gives a slight shine, it’s far more pleasant than the alternative.
Both the non-greasy, fragrance-free spray and lotion dry quickly and won't damage plastics or synthetic coatings, making them safe for use on clothing, backpacks, accessories and even firearm finishes. The spray provides up to 12 hours of protection against mosquitoes and ticks, while the lotion offers up to 14 hours of protection. Both forms provide up to 8 hours of protection against biting flies, gnats, chiggers, and sand flies.
