EDGEFIELD, S.C. — As turkey seasons open nationwide, the National Wild Turkey Federation encourages turkey hunters to prepare themselves with the essential skills for safely and effectively pursuing America's greatest game bird.

Through the NWTF Turkey Hunting 101 course, turkey hunters are offered a comprehensive guide to wild turkey and turkey hunting, gaining invaluable insights into every aspect of the sport.

“Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned hunter, the NWTF Turkey Hunting 101 course is your gateway to a rewarding and ethical turkey hunting experience,” said Mandy Harling, NWTF national director of Education and Outreach programs. “This comprehensive course extends beyond standard hunter safety material, ensuring that you’re well-prepared for your turkey hunt. From learning about wild turkey characteristics, sounds, life cycle, to gearing up for the hunt, patterning your shotgun and learning to call, this course has it all. It doesn't stop with the hunt itself; we also cover what happens after the hunt — field dressing, cooking and more.”

Since its launch, nearly 13,000 individuals have completed the NWTF Turkey Hunting 101 online course. This groundbreaking course, a product of a 2020 partnership with Kalkomey Enterprises, LLC, guides participants through six chapters and a diverse array of topics exploring the world of wild turkeys. Hosted on the Today’s Hunter online platform, the course delivers engaging content enriched with quality photographs, graphics, expert-led videos and more, providing an immersive learning experience like no other.
