The vest arrives at a nice price point compared to Nomad’s other turkey vests, but it doesn’t skimp on the essential features or quality.
As a run-and-gun turkey hunter, I appreciate a turkey vest that allows me to include just the essentials but that can also be comfortable for a long sit on a hung-up gobbler when needed. The Nomad Turkey Vest does just that.
Also appreciated are the many adjustable straps to ensure the vest is snug and quiet, including on the sides, chest and upper chest.
Maybe the best feature is the functionality and ease of use of the 3-inch thick seat. We’ve all fumbled with a turkey vest that has a clunky seat that is neither quiet nor quick to deploy. The Nomad Turkey Vest, when unbuckled, is easy to setup. I was able to use one hand to deploy the seat and the other hand to hold my shotgun and was able to get into position quietly. It is just as easy to close with the magnetized buttons and chase that hard-headed tom.
The vest comes with one box-call-specific pocket, one pot-call-specific pocket and two small mesh pockets on the sides for diaphragm calls. While there is only one pot-call pocket, it is pretty big and has dividers inside and could fit three small pot calls.
The vest also has four deep multi-use pockets, with two on each side (one in the front and one in the back), that can easily accommodate strikers, locator calls, turkey loads, tags, some Little Debbie cakes and even an extra box call or pot call if you don’t mind them loose in a pocket.
There are also smaller mesh pockets inside the vest on each side that I couldn’t find a particular use for, but they are there if you need them! Other pockets include the mesh drink holders on each side – one for a coffee thermos and one for water, or whatever you like to drink.
The adjustable straps on the deep game pouch allow you to keep your decoy and other miscellaneous goods tight and secure when trekking into the woods, and are easily loosened for when you’re carrying out that big tom.
The vest can carry all of the essentials (Little Debbie cakes are arguably essential), but if you like to hunt with multiple pot and box calls with specific pockets or if you like a turkey vest with a solid frame for long sits, then you’d maybe want to consider Nomad’s Bull Lounger or Killin’ Time turkey vests.
Overall, the vest is comfortable and functional and is suited to my style of hunting. What it does best is provide a lightweight and slimmed-down experience for the hunter without sacrificing quality and functionality.
The vest is offered in various effective spring camo patterns, including Mossy Oak Bottomland and Mossy Oak Shadow Leaf.
