When I am not able to go alone, I do not let that stop me. My little one is now loving
the idea of putting a striker and slate call together. I use this year-round during deer and turkey season, target practice with bow, rifle or shotgun (using hearing protection of course), and
I’ve used it at the South Carolina NWTF Rendezvous and in Nashville at the
Convention. For the hunting outdoor mom this is a must have.
ALPS OutdoorZ Grand Slam Vest
I use the ALPS OutdoorZ Grand Slam vest in Mossy Oak Bottomland. I wear the standard size; I'm 5-foot-7 and wear size large/12 in women’s. My favorite feature is the seat. I cannot stand to sit on wet ground, and you know that's unavoidable during turkey season. My vest fits everything from my slate call, box call, turkey tags, bug spray, sunglasses, phone and more.
Summit Mini Viper SD Climber
I have always been a hunt-alone-type hunter. Hunting is my yoga, my reading a book. I do not like bothering or depending on anyone. I love using a two-piece climber, and I only use Summit. I purchased one several years ago, and it has not let me down. I use the Mini Viper SD and the Viper SD. I wouldn’t mind a new one of these this year.
Summit Safety Harness
Do not forget the harness. I took for granted one ‘quick’ climb in January 2021. It’s how I found out I was pregnant after years of not being able to have children. That’s another story! I was so lucky to not have any broken bones or die. I wear a medium in Summit Pro Safety Harness.
LaCrosse Venom Snake Boots
I do not go into the woods without my LaCrosse Venom Snake Boots in Mossy Oak; year-round I wear these. When I got these, there was not a women’s option, so I purchased the men’s and converted the
sizing. I love these boots. They accommodate baggy pants or leggings, and my feet have never gotten wet. I bragged about the pair so much, my husband purchased a pair. I have worn them for just a walk in the woods, checking cameras and hunting. Now that they have a women's pair, this will top my wish list this year.

Reduced Recoil Turkey Loads
Federal and HEVI-Shot now have 2 3/4 turkey loads with little recoil — almost like shooting a dove load — but they pattern great. In fact, a range test of Federal TSS 12-gauge, 3-inch shot at 40 yards put about 150 pellets in a 10-inch circle, with around 20 in vital areas. The 2 3/4-inch, reduced recoil HEVI-18 TSS turkey loads (soon to be released) at the same distance had more pellets in a 10-inch circle with 17 in vital areas. Nearly equal results with less of the punch!
