Copa de la Diversión is Spanish for “Fun Cup” and is a unique event series designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate with local U.S. Hispanic communities. As part of the partnership with the NWTF, GreenJackets players wear uniforms embracing the colorful and distinctive ocellated wild turkey, and gameday festivities showcase the culture and cuisine of Hispanic communities.
“We love partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation on our Pavos Salvajes programming at SRP Park and sharing the vision of the NWTF all summer long,” Green Jackets Vice President Tom Denlinger said. “As part of our partnership, the Pavos Salvajes jerseys are auctioned off to benefit the NWTF’s mission, helping aid in their efforts of conservation and hunting heritage, and our fans love the partnership.”
NWTF co-CEO Kurt Dyroff and NWTF Communications Director Pete Muller were recently presented a check from proceeds raised this year during the 2024 Copa program.
“The wild turkey is the official game bird of South Carolina, and the ocellated turkey is native only to Hispanic countries,” Muller said. “This partnership marries the MiLB’s Copa program with our efforts to bring awareness to wild turkey conservation and share the life-changing power of the outdoors with people from all walks of life. We look forward to more fun ball games next year!”
NWTF staff will again be at the GreenJackets Copa series next year to discuss wild turkey research efforts, habitat conservation initiatives, education and outreach opportunities in the community and more.
