Navigating the Hazardous Fuels Transportation Program: NWTF’s Informational Webinar Series

In a significant step forward for wildfire prevention, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the USDA Forest Service recently joined forces to introduce the Hazardous Fuels Transportation Assistance program, a critical component within the broader Wildfire Crisis Strategy. To help stakeholders navigate this new program, the NWTF hosted a series of informational webinars throughout August, providing detailed guidance and answering questions from potential applicants.

One of the most challenging aspects of effective hazardous fuel treatment is the transportation of forest products. These materials are often located far from processing facilities, and the high costs associated with transporting these materials from national forests to forest product facilities have historically hindered the implementation of crucial wildfire prevention strategies.

The Hazardous Fuels Transportation Assistance program directly addresses this issue by offering incentives to offset transportation costs. By doing so, the program aims to remove one of the significant barriers to effective hazardous fuel treatment, thereby facilitating the broader implementation of wildfire prevention strategies.

To ensure that potential applicants have a clear understanding of the program and how to take advantage of it, the NWTF has hosted a series of informational webinars for attendees to learn about the program in detail, including eligibility requirements, application processes and the types of projects that qualify for assistance. Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions and receive real-time feedback from experts involved in the program.
