“Our chapter has hosted this event for 15-plus years, and everyone involved has a good time,” said Robert Nelson, Brandon Boss Gobblers Chapter volunteer. “Sometimes it’s tough to tell whether the participants or the volunteers have the most fun. At the end, everyone swaps stories, and, without a doubt, we talk about how soon we can get together again.”

The event is held on a family farm northwest of Garretson, South Dakota, which is owned by friends and sponsors of the Brandon Boss Gobblers Chapter.

With dozens of volunteers, staff members from LifeScape Children’s Services and many family members of participants, there were plenty of hands on deck to make the two-day event fun for all that attended.

“We can’t thank you enough for letting us come out here to enjoy this outdoor fishing event; this place is like a Hallmark postcard,” said one of the event participants.

In addition to fishing, the kids also enjoyed sidewalk-chalk drawing, coloring books, frisbee and kick ball.

“The collaboration between NWTF and LifeScape has been incredible to witness,” said LifeScape Specialty School Principal Brittany Dawson. “NWTF is giving our children supported a different opportunity to get into nature and build relationships with others in our community. We are fortunate to have this partnership. By having the same vision, mutual respect and shared goals, our teams were able to create an unforgettable experience for our students.”

Each year, NWTF chapters across the U.S. offer people of all walks of life opportunities to explore the outdoors through local hands-on events and hunts. Events are designed to pass on the traditions of safe, ethical outdoor pursuits and teach conservation principals. Find an event near you.
