President's Message

To all Texas NWTF Members

What a great NWTF Awards Night in Mesquite ,Texas we had recently ! ! It was the most successful event of its type in our Texas NWTF history. The night was filled with an exciting hunt auction, gun raffles and games. Outstanding chapters were recognized for their year’s work as volunteers.

  • Texas Volunteer of the Year—Roxanne Gipe
  • Best Overall texas Chapter—Pineywoods Chapter
  • Best WITO event—Pioneer Chapter
  • Most Improved Chapter –Cottonwood Creek Chapter
  • Outstanding Regional volunteers-Craig White, Charlie Klein and Robin Dawson

It was such a fine evening that we are going to do it again next year in the same place at the same time.

The key things immediately on our plate are our NWTF Banquet season where we really help the Wild Turkey , Upland Game Birds and other game raising funds for habitat improvement and the NWTF National Convention in Nashville.

Texas is sending its largest contingent ever to the convention this year. Thanks to those who are making that special effort to be at the Opryland Hotel where magic and inspiration flow for 4 solid days. Texans get to meet those who are our counterparts from around the USA and many new friendships are forged at the convention. Start planning on it for next year. You still might make it for this year with a big effort in the time that is left.

Following the convention it is Spring Turkey season all over the USA. I know I plan to hunt in three different states this year. I hope you will take the opportunity to hunt in the many different environments that Texas has to offer It may be time for you to spread your wings and try the birds in other states. Being on the road chasing “OLD TOM” is wonderful sport.

Thanks to each of you for making Texas the No. 6th ranked state in the NWTF—the highest we have ever been. It is because of you volunteers and our great RDs that we have reached this new plateau.   Cheers!

Robert Linder –Texas State NWTF Chapter President
