“While the NWTF delivers its mission across the country, each region is uniquely distinct — from the conservation challenges our initiatives address to the terrain and the tactics required to hunt wild turkeys,” said Pete Muller, NWTF communications director. “For our 5th Annual Conservation Week, we’re excited to highlight our efforts and the rich culture of these regions. From the majestic Merriam’s wild turkey in Washington State to the cunning Osceola wild turkey in peninsular Florida, we’re showcasing how our national mission to conserve the wild turkey and preserve our hunting heritage is carried out through targeted, regional efforts across the country.”
Throughout the week, the NWTF will shine a spotlight on a different region each day — Northeast on Monday, Southeast on Tuesday, Great Plains on Wednesday, Midwest on Thursday and the West on Friday — bringing stories of habitat restoration, education and outreach, research and regional successes in conservation and hunting heritage to the forefront. The NWTF will conclude its Conservation Week on Friday — which is National Hunting and Fishing Day — with an emphasis on its Education and Outreach efforts, focusing on how the NWTF is working to unite a nation through the life-changing power of the outdoors.
Highlights include:
Whether it is the longleaf pine ecosystems of the Southeast or the wide-open grassland prairies of the Great Plains, the NWTF’s 5th Annual Conservation Week celebrates the unique landscapes and natural resources that are our national treasures.
